Comic Book Spotlight!: Only One Exists – My Little Pony

Hello there comic book and My Little Pony fans, today we got news that IDW and Hasbro have gotten together with Heritage Auctions to raise money for the charity Give Kids The World. Commemorating the best selling comic in IDW’s history, they have put together a one-of-a-kind issue of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #12 with a variant cover by Sara Richard, which celebrates the milestone of selling over one million copies at retail. That single issue, CGC graded 9.6, and the original cover art and other artwork that was included in creating the cover are all signed by the artist, the artwork lot will include a small rough thumbnail design, a larger loose pencil layout, and the finished tight inks, as well as the 9″ x14″ full color mixed media painted work, and everything will be in the Heritage Signature Auction on August 7th. Again the proceeds of the auction will benefit Give Kids The World, a non-profit organization that provides children from around the world with life-threatening illnesses and their families a memorable and cost-free visit to Central Florida attractions.

Artist Spotlight!: Mike Mitchell

Hello there fellow art lovers, today’s Artist Spotlight is on one of my newest favs, Mike Mitchell, I recently discovered him through one of my favorite art site Mondotees, which recently held a gallery showing of his most recent work, a collection of Marvel inspired artwork. Mike Mitchell is an American artist in Austin, TX, known for his pop surrealism and poster prints. Now if you didn’t know Mondotees is one of the most popular and in demand producers of what I consider fine art posters, that are extremely sought after and highly collectible. They commission amazing pop culture artworks from amazing talents, the posters cover a wide range of topics like music, movies, comics, games, cartoons, and TV shows, so your desire to represent your love for something can definitely be represented thru beautiful poster form. So it was a amazing thing that Mondotees decided to showcase Mike Mitchell’s artwork because his work definitely is a site to behold, covering one of my most beloved topic, Marvel Comics.

His art style borders on the real to the cartoony at times, he use a mix of styles to accomplish different effects, some artwork is very vector base in style giving him bold sharp line work, as well as a combination of painting style where you get good tonal value. His also plain contrasting solid color backgrounds to make the either pop and/or stand out from the background. My most favorite is his portrait series, where he takes famous pop culture characters and does side portraits of them, I especially love his recent portrait series where he did side portrait versions of Marvel Comic book characters. Make sure to check out his other works of art at And if you like what you see and read then please, share, like, and comment, help us spread the loving.

A Brony Tale

Hello there geek fans, here is a very unique subject matter I wanted to share with all of you, Bronies, which are the subculture of middle aged men who are obsessed with the show My Little Pony. Now I don’t consider myself a Bronies, but I have seen s few episodes and my niece loves the show, so I can appreciate the cartoon, and I can definitely say growing up when My Little Pony originally came out, this show is so much better and not crazy ass girlie like it’s original, it fits very well into the modern day style of cartoons we see today like Adventure Time, Regular Show, and etc. It’s a very goofy and off the wall playful and funny series that even plays with its geek fanbase, like have a small character inspired by Dr. Who.

Now to showcase this side of the My Little Pony fandom is a movie A BRONY TALE, which not only gives us an inside look into the incredible niche world of these men, called Bronies, but also into their lives where their intense love for the series is present in. Documentary producer Morgan Spurlock, who previously covered comics fandom in his San Diego Comic-Con documentary Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, has turned his camera on My Little Pony fans in a new documentary release premiering in July. A Brony Tale is the first release under Executive Producer Morgan Spurlock’s (Super Size Me, One Direction: This is Us) “Morgan Spurlock Presents” label.  Directed by Canadian Brent Hodge (CBC’s Winning America, The Cockumentary), the movie will premiere in theaters on July 8th, and come to Video on Demand on July 15th.  The movie will follow Brent Hodge as he learns about what he believes are the estimated three million adult males in the United States that identify as fans of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic cartoon series. Also, in the documentary it follows Canadian voice actress Ashleigh Ball, who voices Applejack and Rainbow Dash on the show, on her journey to the 2012 BronyCon event in New York City as she meets members of the fandom.

I never knew that there was much of a male fanbase for this show so it’s very interesting to know that it’s big enough for a convention and strong enough in pop culture for a documentary. I will definitely check out this documentary, one I love documentaries, especially ones on the unique and pop culture related, and two I’m interested in the lives of these guys who seem to love this show to high degrees. And if you like what you see and read then please, share, like, and comment, help us spread the loving.

Wizarding World Of Harry Potter’s New Diagon Alley Attractions

Hello there everyone, today I’m bringing some news to the fans of the Harry Potter movies and books, and it’s about The Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed area that is located in the Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. First open at June 18, 2010, with one of the big part of the first phase of the plan was Hogsmeade Village, or simply Hogsmeade which contains many gift shops and restaurants from the series of Harry Potter books including Dervish and Banges, Honeydukes, Ollivanders, Zonko’s Joke Shop, the Three Broomsticks, and the Hog’s Head.

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

So on May 8, 2013, it was officially announced that phase two will consist of the constructed of the Hogwart Express, to take guess thru the attraction, and featuring attractions themed after Diagon Alley and London. Here are some beautiful pictures from the attraction, and even though it is not open yet, it seems to be very close to being done and ready for visitors anytime now. I’m loving the look of this, its look it jump right out of the movie, I know a few Harry Potter fans in my family that will love this. Although I’m not crazy about what seems to be animatronics goblins, I’m absolutely in love with the set designs, definitely gives you the sense of the movie, wish the goblins were just people in movie quality makeup instead of robots. The World’s Largest Video Game Collection

Hello there fellow game lovers, today I got an interesting story for everyone, up for auction is the world biggest game collection. The collection belongs to Michael Thompson, whose collection consists of all 10,607 games that were verified by The Guinness Book of World Records during the official count that was performed on December 3rd, 2012. Also, since then he has acquired four hundred plus more games, making the total to be over 11,000 games.

But sadly for the game geek, he must sell his collection off to support his family, so his selling everything, all 11,000 games. Along with all the games comes a 100 consoles, the actual Guinness Certificate, a lifetime subscription to Retro Magazine, which includes all back issues and an autographed copy of the premiere issue that features this very collection. You can see a list of consoles that are being sold, a list of completed U.S. games titles and a video of his collection at the site where the auction is being held, Gamegavel. As of this moment the auction is up to $766,916.66, and it had started at a dollar (with a reserve), so if you’re a crazy gamer with a big wallet then go crazy and go for this impressive collection of games and get the title of having the largest game collection. And if you like what you see and read then please, share, like, and comment, help us spread the loving.

May is Asian Heritage Month

Wow I didn’t even know that Asian people had a month lol, weird how Asian Heritage Month has never been mention or promoted in my life, never seen media coverage or even other Asian people let alone other races talk about it. If I didn’t pass by this great post by Lora Quitane (be sure to check her out) I never would had known, and now I’m glad that I do know about it now. We deserve to be recognized like other races in the western world, our stories and culture need to be told and learn about too. But it is kinda sad that like I said before Asian Heritage Month is practically known to very few people in society and I’m kinda doubting that that will ever change, sadly Asians are a forgettable race in the US, very little coverage or attention of any kind to the Asian race in the US. Also, what does this month even represent, events like February’s Black History month pretty all around the is talk about it, on the media and other sources. People actually make it a effort to get the knowledge of Black history and life to the people, but sadly I feel that this Asian Heritage Month event is nothing important or noticeable except to the very few Asian people. Sad but hopefully one day it will change, that one day Asians are recognized like other races.

Asian Heritage

It’s Asian Heritage Month in Canada. In the U.S., it’s called Asia Pacific Heritage Month.

From my quick research (aka the Internet), I discovered that there is not a lot of information and media coverage on this celebration, especially in Canada. Or at least where I live.

In Manitoba, the Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba has a list of activities and events to commemorate this month. So does VancouverOttawa, Calgary, and Toronto. But, despite these events and activities, they’re not enough.

They’re not enough because there’s not a lot of buzz and talk about it. Some Filipinos that I know have no idea that it’s their month. And it’s sad because it should be celebrated to recognize Asians in Canada. The more people talk about it, the more people are more open-minded with the Asian culture. That there is more to us Asians.
